Concrete is an artificial stone-like material that is used in various building structures. It is very inexpensive and strong, being essential for stability in any construction. It also is very easy to make and really versatile, you can use it by molding it into the shapes you like.
It is composed of the combination of various elements such as cement, sand, pebbles, gravel, shale etc. With the big role of water hydrating the mixture and making it possible to harden.
And why is so important? Well, first of all, concrete is really everywhere your eyes can see. We’re talking about roads, sidewalks, houses, bridges, skyscrapers, pipes etc. Basically, everywhere there is a structure, there is cement.
Then, we can say that it is also very environmental friendly. And that is because it is made by using all natural ingredients and because it is also recyclable, which is really important in this matter.
Finally, the importance also comes from the huge role it performs in the construction industry that we are going to talk about in the next few paragraphs, making the concrete one of the most important elements in the whole wide world.
As I told you before, concrete is everywhere! Any construction you see is mainly made by the use of concrete. So there is no denying of the importance of concrete in the construction industry. On that matter, approximately 2/3 of the buildings and infrastructure are made of concrete, every single road, building and house you take a look at, is mainly made with the use of concrete.
The construction industry is one of the bedrocks of any economy. When an economy is starting to grow, the first industry that grows is construction. Why? Because it “uses” many other types of industries and gives a lot of jobs. So concrete is the most important element of the most important industry. Awesome, right?
I mean, when you take a look at the production numbers it leaves no doubt. More than a ton of concrete is produced every year for each person on the entire planet. Which doing some math, is more than 6 billion tons per year.
Concrete is like the essence of the construction industry.
The short answer is no.
First of all, we should take a look at history. Cement has been around as a very important material for society almost for 12 million years. It played and still plays a very important role being the bedrock the economy and the stability core of any building. So in this matter, maybe saying that is going to hold its importance for a couple of more years isn’t crazy, right?
Finally, there is an estimate of $3.3 trillion over a 19 year period needed in investment to repair the infrastructures around. Because cement, as awesome a hard as it is, it’s also not invincible. So saying that concrete is going to be needed in this following 20 years is very well thought.
